your news about all things SigEp

Spring 2018 Recap
Spring 2018  was the beginning of big things for SigEp MD Beta. We held our first balanced man scholarship in the past 3 years and were able to recruit new members from the banquet. We rolling recruited an additional member into the first spring 2018 class to bring our first class up to 12 new sigmas, the largest in many years! Additionally, we were able to recruit two more members through rolling recruitment into our "second" sigma class of the Spring, bringing our total recruitment number for the spring up to 14.

SpringFest in spring 2018 was very fulfilling for SigEp. Although we did not win, we were able to have a great time participating with Zeta and Theta Chi in various fundraising activities and social events.

Through another successful fundraising semester, we were able to raise another $1,300 for the NICU, bringing our total for the fall of 2017 and the spring of 2018 to almost $5,000!

Fall 2017 Recap
In Fall 2017, the chapter continued to grow. We recruited 5 new brothers. Two of these brothers immediately took up executive board positions in the end of the fall and showed immense leadership. A completely new and younger executive board was elected that showed great promise in the future of SigEp MD beta. We look forward to seeing what this new board can do!

Homecoming in the fall of 2017 was a great success. Paired with Sigma Kappa and ATO, SigEp was able to win homecoming and bring home another trophy for the cabinet. As the new committees began to be formed, a had another successful alumni tailgate event during Homecoming that saw many recent alumnus return and celebrate their lives and SigEp.

Fundraising efforts were extremely successful this semester. SigEp MD Beta held it's first ever Dunk the Police fundraising event, where local College Park and University of Maryland police volunteered to get "dunked" in dunk tanks. T-shirts, koozies, and pay-per-dunks allowed SigEp to raise more than $2,500 towards our NICU pledge during the event!

Spring 2017 Recap
The Spring of 2017 started off with great recruiting efforts. Alec Tzianabos, VP of Recruitment at the time, led the chapter during periods of uncertainty through a very important recruitment period and was able to recruit 8 new members into the sigma class.

The 2017 SpringFest (new-named Greek Week) was a huge success as SigEp partnered with FIJI and Delta Gamma and participated in many fundraising and social events.

The fundraising events for the NICU continued as our brothers held chipotle fundraisers and had baked food sales to help support the premature babies at the UMMS Foundation.

Where you can help: Our Philanthropic Service Efforts

Our brothers are raising money for a new wing to be built at the University of Maryland Medical Center's NICU. With only 40 beds available in the center currently, babies often have to share rooms, posing a problem if infection is a factor. In response to this, Sigma Phi Epsilon has made a pledge that by 2018 we will raise $25,000 towards a new wing for the NICU. This wing will provide more rooms, allowing for individual placement for the infants as well as a more effective waiting/overnight area for the parents.
